Goals for the month of February 2020

What were my goals?

I wanted to do much more than I accomplished in February.  The goals I had established at the beginning of the month were:

  • Create a minimum of four blog posts
  • Create a Pinterest account and start pinning.

I felt short of all my goals though.  How many blog posts did I create? Absolutely none! I did manage to create my Pinterest account but pinned zero images.

This month was a bit of a struggle for me. I did not feel like I was capable of accomplishing what I had set out to do. My negative thoughts and my limiting beliefs influenced what I accomplished. I felt I still had too much to learn and instead of just going ahead and doing something, I focused on reading as much as I could on what I wanted to learn.

I’ve realized that I need to focus on not just reading, but implementing what I read.  Otherwise, I forget it and have to go back and look for the information. A lot of learning happens when you just do something and figure it out… but my limiting beliefs got in the way.

What did I learn this month?

I truly had no idea what to focus on. Everything I read said create content. But what good is creating content if you have no idea what to do with that content? So I read about how to:

  • Decide who my audience is
  • Create an audience avatar
  • Brainstorm ideas for content
  • Do keyword research
  • Figure out if the topic I want to write about will resonate with my audience
  • Write a blog post
  • Create an editorial calendar for blog posts
  • Focus on promoting a blog post
  • Create a promotional calendar for blog posts

I read a lot of great content. Found some wonderful bloggers who focus on just what I wanted to learn. I felt my confidence grow. I hope the month of March will be a month that I actually create content!

What will I implement?

After all that reading and researching, I feel much more capable to implement what I have learned. I am realizing that I do have the capacity to create content now that I know what to do with it. I’ve also noticed that blogging is not easy, especially when you work full time and have a household and a family to take care of.

Reminding myself of why I want to do this is key to making sure I don’t lose sight of my goal. And even when the going gets tough, or I feel too exhausted, I am okay with taking things slower.

I had really high expectations at the beginning of the year, but I’ve slowed down on when I will reach my goals. Not feeling like I would reach them in the time I had allotted, was really holding me back. Goal setting is what keeps you focused on what to achieve, but sometimes you have to step back and realize that accomplishing them might take longer than expected. And you know what? That is okay. Take a step back, do things the right way, and know that as long as you are focusing on doing a little bit every day to get to your end goal, that is enough!

What are you struggling with? How are you managing to get out of the slump you are in? Are you looking for help in the right places? Please let me know in the comments below!
